New York - ALsharqiya, August 5: Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, is seeking to end Apple's dominance of the technology scene by developing "super-artificial intelligence" and spending hundreds of millions of dollars to attract top talent. The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday that Zuckerberg has declared an indirect technological war on Apple, seeking to limit the control its devices have over users' lives.

In his recent speech, Zuckerberg spoke of his vision for integrating advanced artificial intelligence into Meta devices. He did not mention Apple by name, but he clearly hinted at the fierce competition. The newspaper noted that Zuckerberg has long dreamed of displacing Apple from its position as a staple in users' lives, whether through phones, augmented reality glasses, or virtual reality devices, but has so far failed to do so. It added that Zuckerberg is spending lavishly at this stage, offering salaries of up to $100 million annually to attract the best minds in the field of artificial intelligence, in what the newspaper described as a "technological arms race." Zuckerberg is counting on the rise of artificial intelligence to transition to a "post-smartphone world," writing in a post: "Personal devices like glasses that understand our contexts because they see what we see, hear what we hear, and interact with us today will become our primary computing devices."

Apple, on the other hand, is seen as lagging behind in the field of artificial intelligence, having been slow to roll out new features. This has raised investor concerns about the company's low investment compared to companies like Meta and OpenAI. The newspaper revealed an ambitious plan Zuckerberg called "super-personal intelligence," which aims to integrate software with hardware to achieve a comprehensive and interconnected user experience, similar to what Apple does with its devices.

The Wall Street Journal believes that Zuckerberg's steps could turn the cold confrontation with Apple into an open conflict, especially if Meta succeeds in developing integrated smart glasses capable of replacing smartphones. The race is not limited to Meta alone, as other companies have entered the fray: Amazon acquired a startup called P, which is developing a smart bracelet that records user activity. OpenAI CEO partners with Apple's former design chief to develop AI-powered device.

London - ALsharqiya 2 August: Smartphone cameras have achieved stunning image quality thanks to a combination of advanced hardware design and intelligent computational photography techniques. This enables them to overcome size and light constraints, delivering results that sometimes rival professional cameras.

Despite the small size of sensors and lenses, phones rely on image processing software to enhance detail, reduce noise, and adjust color and lighting, producing clear and vibrant images, even in the most challenging shooting conditions.

The most prominent smartphone imaging technologies are:

Advanced CMOS sensors:

They have become progressively more efficient and larger, allowing for better light capture and higher image quality.

Multiple lenses:

Many phones are equipped with different focal length lenses (wide, telephoto, macro, etc.), giving users a variety of perspectives and subjects.

Image stabilization:

Optical and electronic stabilization technologies reduce shake, resulting in sharper images, especially in low light or when shooting motion.

Larger apertures:

Let in more light, significantly improving nighttime performance.

Software image processing:

Phones apply algorithms to automatically improve sharpness, reduce noise, and adjust contrast and color saturation.

High Dynamic Range (HDR):

Multiple images at different brightness levels are captured and combined to create a final image rich in color and detail.

Night mode:

Uses artificial intelligence to combine data from multiple images, then processes the scene to produce clearer lighting and details in the dark.

Artificial Intelligence (AI):

The camera automatically recognizes faces and scenes (food, landscapes, night, etc.) and automatically adjusts settings to achieve the best results.

Conclusion:

Smartphone cameras demonstrate how computational photography can overcome the limitations of small devices, delivering a professional photography experience within reach. Thanks to these innovations, size is no longer the sole measure of quality.

London - ALsharqiya, July 26: Electronic copies of official documents are no longer just files to keep; they have become a sought-after commodity on dark web markets, where they are increasingly sold and used for fraud and identity theft.

While many believe that keeping passports and ID cards in safe places ensures protection, the digital reality poses increasing threats that go far beyond physical theft.

How are documents stolen?

According to recent security reports, cybercriminals are now relying on advanced techniques to steal digital documents, most notably:

Deploying malware on devices to steal sensitive files.

Exploiting vulnerabilities in government and airline websites that store user documents.

Phishing attacks via fake websites that mimic check-in pages, where the victim is asked to upload their official documents.

Scanning stolen documents and selling them as electronic copies on the dark web.

A Profitable Black Market

Data indicates that scanned passports and cards are sold at varying prices, depending on the type of document and the country of issue. Passport photos are sold for between $10 and $200, and can reach up to $5,000 for European Union passports.

Identity cards are offered for as little as $15.

Although the prices seem relatively low, their value doubles when used in major fraud or identity theft.

How to Protect Your Digital Documents

For those who must keep electronic copies of documents, cybersecurity experts advise following the following steps:

Store documents on trusted cloud services that support full encryption.

Disable file sharing to prevent unauthorized access.

Be wary of suspicious emails and links, and use tools to verify the reliability of links.

Regularly update your security software and operating system to protect your device from vulnerabilities and malware.

Your digital security is your responsibility.

In an increasingly digitally connected world, securing official documents is no longer just an option, but an urgent necessity. Negligence in this regard could expose you to significant financial or legal losses, and your data could be used in criminal activities that have nothing to do with you.

About 30 Saudi-origin brands participate in this event, contributing to enhancing the development of the Saudi fashion sector at the local and global levels.

This week's activities, which extend from October 20 to 23, began with an opening dinner that brought together about 250 influential figures in the world of fashion. It includes an exhibition of products designed by local brands and 16 live fashion shows.

This event is being organized by the Saudi Fashion Authority, which revealed that the fashion industry in the Kingdom enjoys the highest growth rates among the most prosperous markets, citing a report entitled “The State of Fashion in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia 2023.”

The first show at Riyadh Fashion Week was signed by designer Muhammad Ashi and titled “8 PM: An Evening in Riyadh.” It was inspired by the magical desert nights decorated with sand dunes, the glow of the moon, and the brilliance of the stars. Ashi had previously presented his shows in Paris, and he is the first Saudi designer to participate in the activities of the Haute Couture Week in Paris, and he was also officially accepted into the French Haute Couture Federation.

Among the striking presentations presented this week, we mention the presentation of designer Adnan Akbar, whose designs were inspired by the nature of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its terrain. This is the first time he has displayed his largest designs inside the Kingdom after he had presented them outside the Kingdom in recent years.

Designer Tima Abed presented a group of looks that were accompanied by innovative accessories and luxurious embroidery that covered outfits that were executed in classic colors such as black, gold, and red. Dubai-Alsharqiya October 20: The “Christie’s Dubai Online Watch Auction”, which can be participated in between October 5 and 19, will witness the presentation of a group of very precious and rare watches, the most prominent of which is a watch bearing the sign “a unique masterpiece”, as it sparkles with a wide, flat diamond. “Portrait” pieces add a charming sparkle to the blue dial with gold indexes and hands.

This timepiece is accompanied by a digital copy of the certificate of origin dated January 18, 1994. It is a unique watch from Patek Philippe made of 18-karat white gold and equipped with an interlocking bracelet and a case whose design takes the form of a sparkling diamond that covers the face of the dial with a bright touch, which makes the estimated value of this watch range from Between 1 and 2 million dollars.

About this watch, Remy Julia, Head of Watches for the Middle East, Africa and India at Christie’s, said: “Integrated into the design of this watch is one of the most prominent precious stones in the world, a flat diamond weighing 13.43 carats, which is the third largest known diamond in the world. The watch was given to one of Patek Philippe's customers who owned this charming diamond. He commissioned the Swiss house to implement it as part of the design of an exceptional watch in 1990, and after 4 years had passed, the watch was delivered to its owner.

The peculiarity of this watch lies in the use of diamonds to perform a specific function instead of just showing off their aesthetics. This situation applies to flat diamonds, which are known as “portrait” diamonds, the implementation of which requires high levels of craftsmanship and mastery in cutting gemstones.

This type of diamond gained its name from the nature of its use in protecting small “portraits” that adorned medals and necklaces in the period extending between the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries.

This cut adds a bright sparkle to the flat face of the diamond, which enhances the clarity of the watch face as it allows more light to pass through compared to the crystal face. It crowns the blue dial with its mesmerizing lustre.

Among the rare pieces also included in this auction is a group of Rolex watches equipped with Arabic dials and gifted by Sultan Qaboos, the former ruler of the Sultanate of Oman. These watches were made in yellow gold and date back to the year 1974. Some of them bear the logo of the dagger, which is considered a national symbol in the Sultanate of Oman, while others bear the signature of “Qaboos.” The estimated value of each watch ranges between 35 and 55 thousand dollars.
