Beirut - Al sharqiya, August 13: Lebanese President Joseph Aoun confirmed to the Secretary-General of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, that Lebanon is willing to cooperate with Iran within the limits of sovereignty and friendship based on mutual respect. He pointed out that the language that Lebanon has heard recently from some Iranian officials is unhelpful. Aoun said during his meeting with Larijani in Beirut that the friendship that we want to bring together Lebanon and Iran should not be through one sect or one Lebanese component, but with all Lebanese. He said that the Lebanese people are represented by the constitutional institutions that look after their supreme interests and the interests of the state. If Iran seeks to achieve its greater interests, this is something natural, but we in Lebanon seek to achieve our interests. He reiterated Lebanon’s rejection of any interference in its internal affairs from any party and that the Lebanese arena will remain safe and stable for the benefit of all Lebanese without discrimination. He indicated that any challenges coming from the Israeli enemy or others are challenges for all Lebanese and not just a group of them, and perhaps the most important weapon to confront them is the unity of the Lebanese.
