Zelensky and European leaders discuss with Trump the risks of compromising Kyiv's interests.

Kyiv -Al Sharqiya, August 13: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders will hold a video call with US President Donald Trump on Wednesday, in an attempt to explain the risks of compromising Kyiv's interests in pursuit of a ceasefire two days before the Trump-Putin summit in Alaska. A German government spokesman said the video call between Trump, Zelensky, and the leaders of Germany, Finland, France, Britain, Italy, Poland, and the European Union is expected to take place at 12:00 GMT. A senior European official said the focus now is on ensuring unity and coordination on the European side. Ukraine hopes the meeting will serve, at least in part, as a European counterweight to the Alaska summit, as Zelensky and his backers try to draw attention to the risks of compromising Kyiv's interests in pursuit of a ceasefire.
