The Iranian judiciary is prosecuting a singer who "urges women to take off the veil"

Iran-ALSHARQIYA August 28 : The Iranian judiciary announced that it had taken legal action against singer Mahdi Yarahi for publishing a song criticizing the compulsory veil, about a year after the start of protests following the death of the young woman, Mahsa Amini.

"After broadcasting an illegal song questioning the customs and traditions of the Islamic community by Mahdi Yarahi, legal action was taken against him," said the website "Mizan Online" affiliated with the judiciary, on Sunday.

Wirahi Maghne, who lives in the city of Ahvaz, the center of Khuzestan province in southwestern Iran, recently performed an unauthorized song entitled "The Head Cover", announcing that he dedicates it to Iranian women who "shine in the front line of the movement of a woman, life and freedom."

This song spreads on the cusp of the first anniversary of the protests that took place in Iran against the background of the death of the young woman, Mahsa Amini, in the hospital, days after she was detained by the morality police on charges of violating the rules of the veil. Soon after the protests, the phenomenon of removing the veil spread in Iran and began to expand with the passage of time, before the authorities took measures in recent months to address the phenomenon with the enactment of a new bill in Parliament, but these steps have not yet limited the spread of the phenomenon.

And the song "The Head Cover" by Yarahi urges Iranian women to take off this cover and protest, and it was shared by accounts on social networks. Yarahi had previously performed, also during the protests, several other songs in solidarity with the protesters, and he had repeatedly criticized the authorities during his concerts for "discrimination against the residents of Khuzestan."
