Geneva - Al Sharqiya, August 8: The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, called for an end to the Israeli government's plan for a comprehensive military takeover of Gaza, saying it would cause more deaths. Türk stressed in a statement that the plan contradicts the International Court of Justice's ruling that Israel must end its occupation as soon as possible, achieve the agreed-upon two-state solution, and grant Palestinians the right to self-determination. Türk added that this escalation will lead to further forced mass displacement, killing, unbearable suffering, senseless destruction, and brutal crimes.
