The drought rate is increasing in the Hammar Marsh in Dhi Qar

Dhi Qar - Al Sharqiya , July 28: Activists on social media circulated photos and scenes of the severe drought that the western Hammar Marsh has reached in Dhi Qar Governorate. The photos, documented by environmental activist Raad Habib al-Assad after a tour he conducted in the marsh, show that most of the marsh’s area has dried up due to water scarcity and cracking of the ground due to its dryness, which caused the migration of a large number of livestock breeders, especially buffalo breeders, after the death of dozens of them. Environmental organizations warned of the migration of at least 85% of buffalo breeders in the areas west of the marsh, the loss of hundreds of families of their livelihood, and the complete disintegration of the ecosystem in the Hammar Marsh, in addition to mass environmental migrations of rare species of birds and fish.
