Egypt-ALSHARQIYA September 6 : The management of the Alexandria Theater Forum, in Egypt, scheduled to start on October 14, has chosen the late artist Farid Shawky to bear the second session in his name.
Director Mohamed Abdel-Sattar, founder of the forum, said in a statement that the choice of the name of Farid Shawqi came unanimously from the forum's management, "because he is a great artist who gave art his life, and he believed in the amateur theater that he started in, and presented the theater with many works."
He added that Shawky was "a key member of the United Artists troupe, and his beginnings were theatrical, where he was a student at the hands of director Aziz Eid.
He concluded that the late "formed with a group of amateurs at the time in the El-Sayeda Zeinab neighborhood and El-Helmeya El-Gedida. In 1945, he opened the Higher Institute of Acting and joined it, obtained a diploma, and resigned from his government job, to devote himself to art."
It is scheduled to honor writer Mahmoud Al-Toukhi, director Helmy Khaled, and director Essam Badawy during the forum's activities.
The first session of the forum bore the name of the late Karam Mutawa, and his widow, the artist Suhair Al-Murshidi, was the honorary president, during which he honored the artist Youssef Ismail, head of the National Festival of Egyptian Theater.
