Spain accuses Shakira of tax evasion for the second time

Spain-Al Sharqiya September 26: Spanish prosecutors have charged pop star Shakira with evading income taxes for the year 2018 amounting to 6.7 million euros ($7.1 million), authorities said on Tuesday.

These are the latest Spanish financial accusations against the Colombian singer. The Barcelona prosecutor's statement said that Shakira is also accused of using an offshore company in a tax haven to avoid paying taxes.

She was notified of the charges in Miami, where she lives, according to the statement.

Shakira is scheduled to appear before a court in Barcelona on November 20, in a separate case related to where she lived between 2012 and 2014. Prosecutors alleged that she failed to pay taxes worth 14.5 million euros ($15.4 million).

Barcelona prosecutors claimed the Grammy winner spent more than half of the period between 2012 and 2014 in Spain and therefore should have paid taxes in the country, even though her official residence was in the Bahamas.
