Russia fines Apple and Zoom for alleged breaches of data storage rules

Moscow-ALsharqiya July 13: Russia has fined the American technology giant Apple and Zoom video communications today, , for allegedly refusing to store the data of its citizens on Russian soil. Moscow has been at loggerheads with big tech companies over content, censorship, data and local representation in a simmering dispute that has turned into an all-out battle since Russia sent its armed forces into Ukraine on Feb. 24. The court in Moscow's Tagansky district said Apple was fined 2 million rubles ($34,000), while Zoom and Okla, which operates speedtest company Speedtest, were fined 1 million rubles each. Alphabet's Google Inc. was fined 60,000 rubles for another data breach.
