France-ALsharqiya, July 11: From filming a luxurious movie at the Opéra Garnier to a Chanel fashion show along the Seine, Fashion Week presented a completely different scene for Paris today, Tuesday, than the riots in recent days.
The country is still healing its wounds and grappling with deep societal divisions exposed by days of violence sparked a week ago by police with the killing of a teenager.
But France also made headlines with luxury and craftsmanship on the second day of Haute Couture Week.
Designer Virginie Viard said Chanel models walked along the Seine with the Eiffel Tower in the background, some with puppies or baskets of flowers, in a display of "sophistication and simplicity".
And at the Opéra Garnier, costume designer Stéphane Rolland staged a performance filmed by veteran director Claude Lelouch for his next film, Finalement.
The performance was a tribute to Maria Callas, whose voice was heard during the performance, with the aim of reviving one of her most legendary performances at the Opéra Garnier in December 1958.
The cast and guests mingled in the upcoming film by Lelouch, made famous by his Oscar-winning 1966 film Man and Woman.
Roland told "Agence France Presse" that the director's request to film the show is "a gift from heaven," adding that it is necessary to integrate fashion and other art forms.
