New US sanctions on Iran

Baghdad - ALsharqiya, July 31: The US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on an Iraqi trader and his company for their involvement in smuggling Iranian oil and selling it on global markets as Iraqi oil. The US Treasury Department identified the Iraqi trader as Thamoud Mohammed Mohsen Al-Azzawi, CEO of the GMCG Shipping Company, accusing him of involvement in smuggling Iranian oil and selling it on global markets. The US Treasury Department also imposed new sanctions on Tehran, targeting more than 115 individuals, entities, and vessels, including Mohammad Hossein Shamkhani, son of Ali Shamkhani, advisor to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The US Treasury Department stated in its statement that these sanctions represent the largest package related to Iran since 2018, and they target a fleet of oil tankers and container ships believed to be owned by Shamkhani's son and used to smuggle Iranian oil and sell it on global markets.
