Iran-Sharqiya, October 16: Last night, Iranian police announced that they found the bodies of director Dariush Mehr Joyee (84 years old) and his wife, Wahida Mohammadifar, in their home west of the capital, Tehran.

The head of justice in Alborz province, Hossein Fazli Harikandi, told the Mizan news agency affiliated with the judiciary: “Mona, the daughter of Mehr Joyee and Wahida Mohammadifar, was the one who told the police about the killing of her parents after she returned home last night and saw them killed with several stab wounds to the neck.” He added that the judiciary "issued its necessary instructions to reach those involved in the killing of the artist and his wife and arrest them."

Wahida Mohammadi Far had mentioned several days ago in a post on Instagram that a person had attacked their house and injured her. But the Chief of Justice of Alborz Governorate clarified that “the family did not file a complaint about the home invasion and the theft of the artist Mehr Joyee’s belongings.”

For his part, the Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Mohammad Mehdi Esmaili, announced that the ministry will closely follow the killing of the artist Mehr Joyee and his wife, saying: “He was one of the great artists of Iranian cinema throughout his six decades of artistic work.”

Esmaili expressed his condolences to the artist’s family and the Iranian artistic community for his death, considering that what happened to him was a “painful and horrific accident.”
