WASHINGTON-ALsharqiya SEPTEMBER 19: A Senate committee plans to bring tech executives to Capitol Hill after a report from the Wall Street Journal about the impact of Facebook-owned Instagram on teen mental health. Blackburn explained that its employees met with a whistleblower who worked for Facebook. He had access to documents published by the newspaper. Blackburn said she expected this session to stand out because of its partisan nature. She noted that she is working with the chair of the subcommittee, Senator Richard Blumenthal, on this effort. The two are looking at the rules for how social media is marketed to children. As well as laws aimed at protecting them online, such as the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, she added: "We are determined to do something in a bipartisan way that will protect our children in the virtual space." This allows them to use the Internet and do research, but still protect them and their privacy when they are online. Karina Newton, head of public policy at Instagram, wrote in a blog post: We are exploring ways to get users to look at different topics if they frequently search this type of content.
