Hiroshima commemorates the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombing

Hiroshima - ALsharqiya, August 6: Thousands of people in Japan bowed their heads in prayer on Wednesday in Hiroshima to mark the 80th anniversary of the first atomic bomb dropped in warfare. The city's mayor warned world leaders about nuclear warheads still present today at a ceremony at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park attended by representatives from 120 countries and territories, including the United States. The western Japanese city of Hiroshima was leveled on August 6, 1945, when the United States dropped a uranium bomb called "Little Boy," killing some 78,000 people immediately and causing radiation effects that lingered for years. Tens of thousands more died by the end of the year. This was followed by the dropping of a plutonium bomb on Nagasaki three days later, and Japan's surrender days later.
