Hezbollah supporters block streets in Beirut

Beirut - ALsharqiya, August 9: The Lebanese army arrested a number of Hezbollah supporters who blocked roads in the capital, Beirut, in the early hours of Friday morning. Local sources reported that Hezbollah and Amal Movement supporters blocked streets in gatherings concentrated in the southern suburbs of Beirut, including the airport line and extending to downtown Beirut, in addition to blocking streets in Zahle, Chtaura, and the Baabda-Hazmieh road. The sources indicated that the Lebanese army arrested a number of supporters, while dozens of them fled. The Lebanese army warned against attempts to endanger the country's security through reckless actions. A statement from the Lebanese army said that it respects freedom of peaceful expression, but will not allow any breach of security, violation of civil peace, blocking roads, or encroachment on public and private property. The army statement stressed the need for citizens and all parties to act responsibly during this difficult period, and the importance of their unity and solidarity in order to overcome the dangers threatening the country.
