ZURICH-ALSHARQIYA Oct 3 - Former FIFA vice-president Eugenio Figueredo has been suspended for life after being convicted of taking bribes after four years in Zurich. Figueiredo, 87, who was president of the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL), pleaded guilty to bribery after being extradited to his native country of Uruguay. He was arrested as part of a large-scale US corruption probe. According to FIFA, Figueiredo participated in a "bribery scheme between 2004 and 2015 in relation to his role in awarding contracts to media and marketing rights companies for the Conmebol competitions." Figueiredo was also fined 1 million Swiss francs ($ 1 million) by FIFA.
