Baalbek Citadel amphitheater turns into a fashion show platform

Paris-Sharqiya, October 2: Georges Hobeika presented its ready-to-wear collection for spring and summer 2024 on the sidelines of the Paris Fashion Week activities through a video film that was filmed in Baalbek Citadel and broadcast on social media.

The house derived its inspiration for implementing this collection from Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, and the painting “The Birth of Venus” by the Italian painter Sandro Botticelli. This collection represents a combination of romantic elegance and artistic creativity. It translates, through the designs and color combinations used, the presence of Aphrodite in the celebration of love, beauty, and elegance.

The flowing designs and ethereal materials evoke a feeling of romance, by wrapping around the body and using layers of muslin and lace, while the soft pastel hues and shiny golden fabrics translate the goddess’s relationship with the foam of the sea from which she emerged. Pearls and seashells represent symbols of purity and elegance in works of art and accessories, and they appear on designs alongside vine leaves, the bright sun sparkling on the surface of the water, pearly flowers, and aquatic plants. As for the rich embroidery, which is considered part of the legacy of the House of Georges Hobeika, it shines with all its usual brilliance. It was executed in soft colors and many shiny and iridescent materials, decorating some of the collection’s designs while others remained simple and devoid of any shine.

The materials used in implementing the designs of this collection varied between crepe, georgette, lace, denim, gold fabrics, and printed muslin. The hope of the lace is decorated with circles depicting various elements such as Aphrodite, dolphins, seashells, pearls, olive leaves, and the orchid flower, which is distinguished as the logo of the Georges Hobeika House. It is also decorated with prints that embody the design of straw chairs made of palm leaves. As for the materials cut and executed from raffia, they were used in many of the collection’s designs, and were even incorporated into the embroidery. The prints on the muslin depict Greek sunsets casting shadows on columns, moss, rocks, water, abstract circles, birds, butterflies, lilies, stems of lavender, fish, swans, and other natural elements. Braided ropes are also included in the executed details. Manually.

Accessories include a metal spiral earring made of seashells and pearls, in addition to a leather belt also decorated with pearls and an orchid flower in the middle. The shoes were flat and decorated with braided laces, and even the buttons were made to look like sunlight emanating from an orchid flower.

This season, Georges Hobeika House chose to celebrate heritage and one of the wonders of the ancient world, and it is proud to be the first fashion house to present its collection in the ancient Baalbek Citadel, which has been classified as one of the architectural wonders inscribed on the World Heritage List since 1984. It includes the largest Roman temples ever and one of the best temples. Preserved all over the world.

The cooperation of Georges Hobeika House with the Lebanese Ministry of Culture, to choose Baalbek Castle as a theater for its show, emerged from the desire of both parties to shed light on the rich Lebanese heritage from a new perspective and transfer it to the fashion capital, Paris. It falls within the mission of George and Jad Hobeika to support the environment in which they live and develop. Through their communication with the Ministry of Culture, the two designers chose a goal that they support and through which they give back to society. Therefore, a portion of the proceeds from the Spring/Summer 2024 ready-to-wear collection will be donated to the Children’s Cancer Center in Lebanon.
