Artificial intelligence predicts heart attacks before it's too late

London - ALsharqiya February 20: In a world that is witnessing rapid development in artificial intelligence technologies, scientists have begun to use this revolutionary technology to change the features of healthcare, especially in the field of cardiovascular diseases. Heart attacks have long been one of the biggest health challenges globally, as cardiovascular diseases claim the lives of more than 17 million people annually worldwide, making them the leading cause of death, according to the American Heart Association. Despite significant advances in medicine, accurately identifying individuals at high risk remains a major obstacle.

A team of researchers is seeking to predict these attacks years before they occur through artificial intelligence, and they are trying to make artificial intelligence a reliable tool that gives patients the opportunity to prevent and take the necessary measures early.

Researchers at Case Western Reserve University, University Hospitals, and Houston Methodist Hospital have embarked on a pioneering initiative to harness artificial intelligence to predict heart failure and other cardiovascular events with unprecedented accuracy.

The new project seeks to bridge the gap in early diagnosis by analyzing cardiac CT scans using advanced AI techniques. The effort aims to estimate the likelihood and timing of such adverse events by developing an AI model that learns from patient scans. The technique relies on examining CT scans designed to measure arterial calcium, a commonly used tool to detect plaque buildup inside blood vessels. But it doesn’t stop there, as these scans also allow for valuable information about the aorta, the shape of the heart, lungs, muscles, and liver, providing a wealth of data that can be analyzed to extract new insights into heart health.
