Apple, under its agreement with Google, will pay about $20 billion in 2022 alone, and Apple wants to call witnesses in the April trial. The plaintiffs will seek to show that Google must take several measures, including selling its Chrome browser and Android operating system, to restore competition in the online search business. Apple said, “Google can no longer adequately represent Apple’s interests. Google must now defend itself against a broad effort to break up its businesses.” The company has proposed easing its agreements with browser developers, mobile device manufacturers and wireless carriers to make Google the primary search engine, but not ending its agreements to share advertising revenue from online searches.
