Al-Sudani launches expansion works of the Najaf refinery

Najaf - ALsharqiya, July 9: Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani launched the implementation of the Najaf refinery expansion project, which will add 70,000 barrels per day, bringing the total refining capacity to 100,000 barrels per day. Al-Sudani was briefed on the production plan for the project, which will be completed within 8 months as part of a government plan to develop refineries and increase their production capacities, thus contributing to increasing the quantity of petroleum derivatives for the local market and opening the way for exporting the surplus. He indicated that the funds that were allocated for importing derivatives were made available after launching several projects related to the refinery sector. Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani inaugurated the 132 kilovolt Abbasiya power plant in Najaf, equipped by the German company Siemens. Al-Sudani reiterated that the government is proceeding with implementing strategic and service infrastructure projects, especially in the field of developing the national electricity grid, to ensure the ability to relieve bottlenecks, stressing the need to complete the requirements for relieving bottlenecks in the governorate, before the Arbaeen pilgrimage of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him. Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani also launched the implementation of the Al-Haidariya sewage project in Najaf Governorate, with a capacity of 30,000 cubic meters per day. Al-Sudani affirmed the government's continued implementation of service and development projects that serve citizens, pointing out the importance of Najaf Governorate receiving its due share of service projects according to what is planned.
