Al-Sudani confirms the start of practical steps to implement seawater desalination projects.

Basra - ALsharqiya, July 2: Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani launched practical steps to implement the strategic project for seawater desalination in Basra after it was approved by the Council of Ministers. After an expanded meeting at the Basra Governorate office, Al-Sudani said that the governorate will implement a group of desalination projects that will be sufficient to cover the governorate with drinking water. Regarding the encroachments on the Tigris and Euphrates basins, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani said that the fish lakes extending from Salah al-Din to Basra were a factor in exacerbating the drought problem, stressing that the government will be firm in eliminating these violations and holding their perpetrators accountable. Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani said the government had signed a strategic agreement with Turkey on water management, given that 90% of Iraq's water resources depend on Turkey. The agreement stipulates the transfer of water management practices to Iraq, drawing on Turkey's successful experience in implementing dam and water station projects. He also emphasized that Turkey would increase the volume of water released to the Mosul Dam and, via Syria, to the Tigris and Euphrates.
